Set in Toronto, James Spader, a film producer, has a disconnected relationship with his wife, Deborah Kara Unger. The couple are shown early on in the film engaging in various infidelities, and later having unenthusiastic sex; their arousal is only heightened when they discuss the intimate details of their extramarital sexual encounters. While driving home from work late one night, James Spader's car collides head-on with another, killing the male passenger. While trapped in the fused wreckage, the driver, Holly Hunter, now a widow, exposes a breast to James Spader, either deliberately or in a spasm while in shock.
the law of remainslaw, the first:all that is left when you have nothing left to give
law, the secondall that you have taken is that which has emptied you( you belived that your taking filled you and so now you are left with the fullness of emptiness)
law, the thirdthat which you give is only that which you can sparethat which you can spare is abundancethis abundance is your emptiness that you sharethat which you cannot give is that which you must sacrifice of yourselfthat which you do not have much ofthis you do not sharethis condemns you to loneliness
maybe the very act of sharing is more significant than what is shared
if nothingness is significant , then it could be as you say that the act is more significantbut how can something be significant when there is no sign and no signifier?
you created a whole world of signs, you mapped your feelings, your solitude, your realizations.you opened a dialogue which established a relationship with others, gave them the opportunity to reflect and rethink, and most importantly verify the value of their actions.Cause we cannot judge intentions or thoughts, we can only evaluate the true transformation by proof of action. When our doing doesn't correspond to our thinking we adopt a mask. But the more we act according to our beliefs, the more we become personal.
