Pink noise or 1/ƒ noise is a signal or process with a frequency spectrum such that the power spectral density is proportional to the reciprocal of the frequency. For pink noise, each octave carries an equal amount of noise power. The name arises from being intermediate between white noise (1/ƒ0) and red noise (1/ƒ2

From a practical point of view, producing true pink noise is impossible, since the energy of such a signal would be infinite. That is, the energy of pink noise in any frequency interval from ƒ1 to ƒ2 is proportional to log(ƒ2/ƒ1), and if ƒ2 is infinity, so is the energy. Similarly, the energy of a pink noise signal would be infinite for ƒ1 = 0.

In financial systems it is often referred to as a long-term memory effect. Also, it is the statistical structure of all natural images (images from the natural environment).

Henry's Confession

Nothin very bad happen to me lately.
How you explain that? —I explain that, Mr Bones,
terms o' your bafflin odd sobriety.
Sober as man can get, no girls, no telephones,
what could happen bad to Mr Bones?
—If life is a handkerchief sandwich,

in a modesty of death I join my father
who dared so long agone leave me.
A bullet on a concrete stoop
close by a smothering southern sea
spreadeagled on an island, by my knee.
—You is from hunger, Mr Bones,

I offers you this handkerchief, now set
your left foot by my right foot,
shoulder to shoulder, all that jazz,
arm in arm, by the beautiful sea,
hum a little, Mr Bones.

—I saw nobody coming, so I went instead.

All true language is incomprehensible, like the chatter of a beggar's teeth.
